The Endocrine System consists of a collection of glands that control basic body functions such as metabolism of sugars, fats and proteins. It also involves regulation of calcium, growth and sexual development, because these are controlled by secretion of different chemicals into the blood. These substances are called hormones. The amount of hormone produced by each gland is carefully controlled. Too much or too little of certain hormone can have effects throughout the body and cause various disorders. Testosterone in males
Estrogen/progesterone in females
